So, why so good…? Well, even as I turned up on the check-in day, it felt like I was coming home. The staff at Harper Adams have really got to know us over the years and I believe they genuinely like having us there. I got there a little early. So, I went to see if I could help with anything. The shop was being set up and a snagged a couple of new centre tops! Very nice. Then, off to the meal. The restaurant had gone out of their way to make some special for us. After the meal, back to the hall for treats and Chi Sau. Always a real learning experience as you can chi sau for much longer than normal with people who you may not know to get to see often. Even after all these years, I find my mind is blown by the level of skill that exists within the centre. It really makes me want to improve. I dare say, life will get in the way, but I do feel inspired each year to keep improving. End of check-in day, and I am ready for bed.
Day 1. I practically jumped out of bed. Breakfast, as usual, was amazing. Started the day with Siu Lim Tao. When we are in our normal working lives, we don’t often get the time to do a longer Siu Lim Tao, but here we do. It is a great feeling. Enhanced by great weather. Then Grand Master Tse spent time on techniques. Everyone then practiced and helped each other to improve. All too quickly, lunch came and a chance to relax. The afternoon session was the Wing Chun pole. Normally, this is the last session of the course, but we wanted to take advantage of the good weather. We all went through the basics and then finished off with some light pole vs. pole action. Off to dinner, followed by more Chi Sau. People were very tired – the pole is physically demanding. People slept well that night.
Day 2. Did not quite jump out of bed, but felt good. A little physically tired, but in a good way. Mind clear. Siu Lim Tao was a bit longer today. Definitely, longer than you would typically get to do at home. Then, for me, a bit of a highlight. Table top chi sau. So much fun. I have not laughed that hard for such a long time. Although it is immense fun, standing with limited space really does help you to understand your flaws and hone new skills. Yes, people concentrated too much on trying to push each other off, but then you started to see the things that you needed to do the change yourself for the better. The afternoon we did the wooden dummy. We learnt section seven and some polishing. This was so good, as this is not something we get to do in class. The evening was dinner at a Chinese restaurant, followed by more chi sau. As days go, you can’t ask for a better one, in my opinion.
Day 3. Physically tired, but mentally alert. Woke up before my alarm. Off to another cracking Harper Adams breakfast. The morning started with a 40 minute single leg Siu Lim Tao followed by chi gerk. This focused on application. Very interesting. Afternoon was Baat Jáam Dōu. We focused on Kwán Dōu and tested its applications. This sadly brought us to the end of this year’s Wing Chun residential. I probably say this every year, but… I think this was the best one… yet! Thank you Sifu, Sihing, and all my Wing Chun Brothers and sisters. You have all helped me so much and I feel I have improved from this course. Looking forward to next year’s one already.

My three days at the Wing Chun Residential 2026 were an unforgettable blend of training, connection, and personal reset. Arriving on the first day felt like stepping into a peaceful green haven far from my busy life in London. The day set the tone with an extended Siu Lim Tao session followed by Chi Sau, the Sticking Hand Technique, unique to Wing Chun and our centre, including the entertaining Table Chi Sau, which pushed me to apply Wing Chun in a playful but challenging way.
The course included training the Wing Chun Pole outdoors under beautiful weather, learning an ancient technique passed down through generations. And also The Wooden Dummy practice—one of the core attractions of the residential, which is an important tool to enhance the Wing Chun skill.
We also practised Baat Jaam Dou, the Wing Chun knives, and even learned a new form. Getting to handle and carrying the knives made the experience feel especially meaningful.
Sharing meals with my Sifu, the brothers and sister added another layer of joy; hearing their stories and laughing together deepened my sense of belonging.
Final day brought more Chi Sau and the bittersweet feeling of winding down. Saying goodbye was difficult, but the weekend strengthened my bond with my Sifu, Wing Chun as a skill, and with my Wing Chun brothers and sisters. I left feeling inspired, connected, and eager for the next residential. I highly recommend the experience.
Thank you Sifu for teaching and including me in this journey of Wing Chun.

Thank you Sigong for a brilliant Wing Chun Residential course. It’s marvellous to be able to get away and focus solely on Wing Chun principles, techniques and training for an extended weekend. Being able to Chi Sau with many hands is always the highlight for me, and adding the table top Chi Sau made it even more fun. Covering many different aspects of Wing Chun, including Chi Geuk, Pole, Baat Jaam Dao and Wooden Dummy really helps appreciate the skill as a whole. There’s always so much to learn, relearn and improve, and seeing how good everyone is, is very inspiring. The combination of training, plenty of good food, along with being part of a fantastic group and lots of laughs is a truly enjoyable experience. Thank you again everyone. Sam
The Wing Chun Residential course was amazing. It was very nice to meet so many people united by the same passion to Wing Chun. I learned new techniques and how to use them. I had chance to see how the techniques I know work with diferent people on different levels and different approach. Thank you Sigong for sharing this amaizing skill with us and helping us to learn it properly.

The Wing Chin residential is the best holiday and highlights of the year. It’s good to see everyone and spend time together eating, sharing stories training and doing Chi Sao. I learned a lot and enjoy all of the sessions, if I had to pick one it would be the table training. As well as being very good for improving technique and learning how to use less energy it was a lot of fun and laughs. However, every section of the course was really excellent and there were highlights everywhere and I have a lot to work on until next time. Thank you Sifu, dai Sihing Darryl and Christine for organising it.

Great to be back at Harper Adams and meeting everyone, focusing entirely on Wing Chun and forgetting everything else. Chi Sau in many different ways, techniques, pole, Wooden Dummy, Baat Jam Dou, Chi Geuk, we covered a lot of skill and knowledge. Really enjoyed the company and social aspect too. Thank you Sigong, Siba and everyone for a great course. Christine
Thank you to Sifu and everyone for making this course possible, informative and very much enjoyable. As well as learning, polishing and re-learning basics and more, the time flew by in good company. Looking forward to the next one! Wai Kin
Thankyou TaiSigong for a fantastic Wing Chun residential. I enjoyed the course very much and go home feeling happy and relaxed. The Chi Sau on the table was very interesting not being able to use the usual stepping, I really enjoyed that and it has highlighted the Wing Chun principles in a new way. It was great to learn some new Wooden Dummy and Bat Jam Dao parts, and to Chi Sau with everyone until late into the night, and Chi Sau with TaiSigong is always a great experience. Thankyou Siba Gong and thanks to all the senior students who offered very valuable advice at each stage of the course. It was great to catch up with everyone and have a nice dinner together on Saturday night. I have a lot to practice and think about. Thanks, Rod.
What a fantastic 2026 Wing Chun residential.
I learnt so much and much of what I learnt was found in returning back to the basic principals; relaxation, economy of movement, structure and our basic hands. Perhaps we find, from time to time, that we’ve reached a plateau in our training. The Wing Chun residential always lifts me to reach new heights.
Thank you Sifu, Darryl, Christine, the Three Peters and all students for the friendship and help.

Really enjoyed the course!
Nice to be part of the group, study, discuss the skill and various techniques and just spend time together. Lots of Chi Sau going into details and trying to apply what we were taught. Overall great long weekend without anything else in the way. Thank you Sifu and all seniors for a great course.

An experience of inexpressible value! The skill and mastery imparted by Tai Sigong were of a level so high I can barely fathom. Also, working with, and especially doing ChiSau with, all the remarkable students of the centre made for an unforgettable few days. There is no doubt my Wing Chun journey has been shaped for the better. Thank you, Tai Sigong and everyone! Aron De Casmaker
Thank you to Sigong for organising this course, and to Sifu and all the seniors. It is always a valuable opportunity to focus on Wing Chun, a skill which offers so many different ways to train and benefit our health. I especially enjoyed the different ways we learned to chi sau.

Time flew by the last couple of days on the Wing Chun residential course! I loved everything but mostly the chance to do chi sau with so many hands and the added spiciness of doing it on tables. Thank you for another amazing residential course, Sigong. Best, Tom Hogg
Great residential!
I feel charged up and full of valuable knowledge to keep me more than busy untill next year.
I really enjoyed the table Chi Sau. It highlighted my faults and consequently helped me refine my angles and use of energy – I felt a big improvement when doing ordinary Chi Sau afterwards.
Thank you to all the seniors for your insights and willingness to share and to Sigong in particular for opening this skill to us in an accessible and clear way, always helping us to the next level in our development.
