Biu Zi Part 5

It was a full house for the Wing Chun BiuZi seminar (pt5), and everyone was incredibly eager to continue learning the BiuZi form and its many aspects.

The afternoon started with with a discussion about hypothetical scenarios, which turned out to be such a beneficial group conversation. Once we were put into our breakout rooms it was time to discuss how to deal with people who are faster, stronger, taller, use kicks, and those with longer arms.
I can undeniably state that this was one of the most indepth discussions I’ve had in a breakout group especially when debating the pros and cons of the hypothetical questions posed.
The sheer volume of information was amazing, and it was so valuable to discuss ideas and work through possible scenarios with my Wing Chun brothers and sisters whom I can’t thank enough for their wisdom and insight. This actually brought to mind one of the ancestor rules…’Love your Kung Fu brothers and sisters. Unite and enjoy to be a group’.
After returning from the breakout rooms, we were all given the opportunity to give answers to the questions posed. There was no vagueness in the answers given as GM Tse was easily able to clarify any questions raised with his usual aplomb.
After a short break we then went on to learn more of the BuiZi form which was exciting and we were once again placed into breakout rooms to practice the new sections we had just been shown.
I believe that everyone is fully aware of how fortunate we all are that TaiSigong has put together these BiuZi seminars as they are normally reserved for residential’s and even then there’s still not enough time to focus on how much detail is in each aspect of Wing Chun forms, applications, and techniques. These seminars are invaluable to any practitioner of Wing Chun.
In my opinion I think the beauty of Wing Chun comes from gaining new experiences and the thirst for knowledge. For myself personally the emphasis is on the journey itself even if the ultimate goal seems unattainable at the time.
Thank you 🙏🏽 to everyone who made this such an enjoyable seminar, and thank you to TaiSigong for imparting his knowledge and wisdom. One statement by GM Tse resonated with everyone and it was…’Wing Chun is in the detail.

Really enjoyed the next part of Biu Tze.  Always more detail to learn and training with everyone always brings up more questions.  The exploration of how to deal with different opponents was fascinating too.  Looking forward to the next part.  Matt L

Really enjoying the Biu Zi seminars, clearing up so many details. Thank You Sifu. Peter A

Really interesting to think about how the form used to have different elbow techniques! A lot of great discussions this time in the breakout rooms as well, everybody is really trying to understand so many different aspects of the form and the skill. Thanks Sigong for giving us so much to think about!

Very interesting discussion in the break-out room for the lecture regarding how to handle difficult opponents – and great to get Sigong’s explanations afterwards.
Enjoying the form and all the details!
Thank you, Sigong.

Important detail emerging from repeating what we’ve learnt from the first 4 parts. Before then a little bit more of the form to learn about. Thanks Sifu. Clive

It was very nice to continue Biu Zi today! The high amount of detail is great. Very interesting seminar on how best to deal with different opponents, be they strong, fast, tall or kicking. Looking forward to next time. Thank you, Sigong. Best, Tom Hogg.

A lovely opportunity to gather with students to talk more widely about wing Chun and then focus in on Bui Zi. Taisigong’s explanation of the detail of the form was excellent as was the knowledge of the students and instructors I encountered in the break out rooms. Daniel

Great details and explanations for the purpose. Nothing is dismissed in the form and Si Gong is able to provide clarity for all levels. Looking forward to further discoveries. Jordan

There were some really interesting discussions in the breakout rooms for today’s Biu Zi seminar. I especially enjoyed GM Tse’s question about how to deal with opponents who are faster, taller and so on. All coming down to the main principles. I also think it’s great that we go into such detail with the form. I’m looking forward to next time. Thank you Sigong.  Peter Hogg

In this part of Biu Zi, Sijo clearly clarifies various details of the form, furthering my understanding of this skill.
I’m always impressed by how Sijo communicates the small nuances of the form, making them easy to understand and apply.
Thank you to Sijo and my fellow wing chun brothers and sisters for another great experience.

Thank you Sigong for another very enjoyable Biu Zi seminar. It’s always interesting to hear about the history of forms, how and why we practice them and there are so many details to unpack every time. Looking forward to diving in even deeper in the next part. Sam

Biu Zi part 5 was very interesting, and I enjoyed the seminar. It was good to think about handling the different kinds of opponent and learn the next bit of Biu Zi. It was very interesting to learn that the forms originally had 108 movements, but not just more repeats but different kinds of elbow too. Thankyou Tai Sigong for another enjoyable and informative seminar, looking forward to part 6! Thanks, Rod.

It was a great exercise to think on how to deal with different opponents and different situations. Also great to go through these examples afterwards and explore if they work or not. The form details are becoming clearer. Thank you Sifu.

Very good discussion in group about how to deal with a range of situations. It is not easy to perform the form properly with right position and energy, so good to go over it so many times. Thank you Sigong. Christine
