It’s always great to start a seminar and see so many new faces and old faces; that in some cases over time have become like extended family.
Part 7 of the Wing Chun Biu Zi seminar began with the Wing Chun Doctor in the house, and this has always resonated with me since Tai Sigong coined the phrase at a seminar many years ago. The questions asked by students junior and senior alike were quite interesting and meaningful, and with over 51 years of experience we were all fortunate to hear his responses to the questions fielded to him. It was of great interest to hear how he has developed certain techniques like double Taan Sau which works superbly. He explained how we shouldn’t be limited to certain techniques, and that the polishing that we all do is so much more advanced and indepth than other schools, and that’s solely due to the skill he possesses and imparts. He went on to express that everyone struggles in life, but it’s about facing your fears and overcoming them. Siu Lim Tao teaches you to become calm and to learn from your mistakes.
The discussion turned to a deeper understanding of Gong Lihk, and that being smaller means you need to develop more internal energy, hence the Gong Lihk. It’s what westerners would associate to core strength. It was explained that Gong Lihk allows you to play with other peoples energy at certain levels and gaining more Gong Lihk is like a tree in that everyday you become stronger and stronger. It was interesting to find out that Gong Lihk and Qi are connected entities.
Tai Sigong further explained that moving on the heel allows all of your body to be connected as opposed to moving just from the waist. Once everyone had asked everything they wanted to know, we had a quick break and then went on to learning much more of the BiuJi form and to have it broken down into component parts to make it easier to understand. Even at his amazing age, Sijo Ip Chun still constantly develops his skill so there is no limit to how far you can progress.
As usual the breakout rooms are invaluable with regards to discussing and going through the form.
This was another interesting and thought provoking seminar and I’m sure that everyone is looking toward to part 8. Thank you to TaiSiGong and everyone for their knowledge and input.

Biu Zi part 7 was full of detail. It was good to hear so many questions about Wing Chun at the start, it really makes me think about Wing Chun more deeply. Sort of like Wing Chun notes, but notes but live! Thankyou TaiSigong, looking forward to the next one, thanks, Rod.
Thank you Sigong for a great seminar of BiuZi with new part, polishing old movement and an interesting questions part. Michalis A.
We learnt a lot this seminar, with plenty of details becoming much clearer. I enjoyed the general Wing Chun questions at the beginning, as it’s always so interesting to hear other people’s thoughts. Working together in groups on the form itself is also very good for sparking more questions which helps us all improve. Thank you Sigong. Sam
