It was great to see so many people at the WC (Wing Chun) BiuZi seminar. It was wholly evident that everyone attending was looking forward to the afternoon.
The sheer dedication was also evident as in some places such as the US, the temperatures were averaging between 30-40 C. Some students were even up at 01.00!
Before starting the form TaiSigong (GM Tse) asked if we had any questions relating to anything about WC. This is where the Tse Qigong Centre shines. It’s due to the fact that the WC taught here has far more substantive qualities compared to a vast majority of other WC schools. Ours is not based solely on fighting, although that is WC’s purpose. Instead there is also a wealth of hypothetical and practical knowledge. The questions asked by students are more on an academical basis proving that in my opinion WC is not just about all out fighting/self defence, but also analyses and tries to figure out the optimal response to a punch thrown. This means that high level practitioners use critical thinking to various scenarios and situations. GM Tse explained that “we need to find out”. If a question is asked, you then need to figure out whether a particular strike or defence would be an applicable response. To paraphrase GM Tse…finding out what works and what doesn’t in a practical setting is akin to an ‘experiment’ making you the ‘scientist’!
Having studied martial arts for over 30 years I can genuinely say it is possibly one of the only martial arts that allows for longevity. Sijo Ip Chun is living testament to this at over 100 years old!
Having to break down and analyse is what makes the centres WC superior in my opinion. GM Tse and many of my seniors are able to convey this to you in simplified way. They also make it enjoyable as even what may seem like a simple question such as an application for Cup Jarm can also lead to many other avenues of explanation as we all saw first hand. Once placed into breakout rooms we were able to practice together and discuss what we’d been shown. We as students are lucky in that we’re taught WC as it was originally meant to be taught. We’re also given a fuller and deeper understanding such as ‘Train the Muk Yang Jong’ (wooden dummy), ‘Polish the Muk Yang Jong’ and ‘Hit the Muk Yang Jong’ as an example.
All in all it was a very enjoyable seminar and I honestly believe that everyone takes away at least one important aspect of WC. My own personal take away was GM Tse stating that ‘Wu Sau was number one for defence and is used like a good goalkeeper!

Wing Chun is an endlessly fascinating skill. Every time we go over the skill there is some new insight. Really enjoyed the seminar, thank you Sifu.

Great seminar. Enjoying the jyun ma connecting to the arm movements to create whole body power. Thank you Sigong.

A lot of great questions from everyone this time in both the lecture and the form — you can really see people thinking about everything they are learning! Thanks Sigong for keeping the gears turning!

It was great to continue with Biu Tze today! I really enjoyed going into detail about the different palms in the lecture. It was a very interesting movement at the end to grab with both hands and turn with Juen Mah. Thanks a lot Sigong.
Best, Tom Hogg.
Another excellent Biu Zi seminar today. It’s great to get back to it. Some really interesting questions to get you thinking too! Looking forward to next time. Thank you Sigong.

Each seminar demonstrates how wing chun versatility is virtually infinite. Despite the familiarity of shapes, the intent/application can completely change it’s purpose, learning new perspectives every second. Many thanks.

Thankyou TaiSigong for a very interesting and enjoyable Biu Zi part 10. It was great to go over the different kinds of Fa Ging, and think about the mid distance Fa Ging too, and how these are used in the form. Thanks for everyone’s help in the breakout rooms, it was great to see everyone. Thanks,
Rod
Thanks sigong for another great Bui Tze seminar. More detail and understanding as we go deeper into the form. Great to see everyone. Looking forward to next time.

It was very nice progressing with another part of BiuZi. At the start but also later on so many details asked and clarified (application, energy positions and more). It feels much clearer and it feels great to practice. Thank you Sigong!

Great seminar filled with thought provoking questions, deep exploration of movements and energies, and refinement of how we use the body to create whole body power. Really enjoying it! Thank you Sifu for another great seminar!

Good to be back learning the form. Went into detail and lots of questions arose from the questions but helped greatly to seeing how each hand or application worked. Thank you Sigong and all seniors for your help.

Biu Tze comments: I really enjoyed how the seminar began with the 3 different types of faat ging. It really guided the focus and detail of the practice for the parts of the form we’d already learned and informed well the new section. Really fascinating and gives me so much to consider move as I continue to train and study. Thank-you Tai Sigong!

It was really useful to go over the different palms and energies. It’s particularly enjoyable to see how one question leads to another and how it reveals the many layers to each movement. Thank you Sigong sharing your knowledge and everyone for digging deeper.
