In part 17 of the Chen Taiji Spear, Grandmaster Tse talked about the recent visit of Great Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang. The focus of the lecture was on explaining the warm up that GGM Chen uses, and this was particularly interesting as it is different from the Tse Centre warm up. GGM Chen used the following order of movements:
- 1 . Circling the head
- 2. Circling the hips
- 3. Stretching the legs
- 4. Turning the waist from side to side with loose arms
- 5. Rotating around the Dan Tian with overlapped palms
- 6. Standing in Zhan Zhuang with the palms facing each other
All the movements were very gentle and each movement was repeated 36 times in each direction. 36 is a lucky number as it consists of 3×12, 4×9, or 6×6. 3 relates to heaven, surroundings and earth, 4 is the 4 directions and six are the six yang meridians and six yin meridians.

After the lecture GM Tse continued teaching the spear form. First we polished the previous sections which was great as it had been a long time since the last seminar. At the end we learned the new section which included stepping also seen in the Pao Chui (cannon fist) form.

I look forward to learning more in the next seminar.Â

Nice new part with steps similar to Laojia Pao Chui.
Great to go through the theory on Chen Taisigong’s warm up.
Thank you, Sigong.

It’s great to get back to the spear form again – now feels much more familiar. Also nice to see everyone in the breakout rooms. Looking forward to the next part! Thank you Sigong. Peter Hogg

Chen spear is a really fun form to learn although it does need some outdoor space and some reasonable weather! Great to polish the new part, everything gets clearer every time. Thank you Sifu. Peter A

Thank you Sigong, I found it very useful to go over Chen Tai Sigong’s warm-up and go in a bit deeper with the reasons and meanings behind it. It was also great to come back to the Spear form, always seeing, learning and understanding more. Sam

Great to go through the new warm-up movements we learned from Chen Sigong. The Chen spear form is quite tricky as there are a lot of changes, circles and turns. I am starting to better remember the parts and to connect them better. Looking forward to really understand it more. Thank you Sifu

The lecture was good, explaining the warm ups from Chen Tai Sigong seminar. Picking up a little more detail now, and some of the energy. Still have to focus hard not to get lost in the form! Thank you Sigong. Christine
