Chen Spear Pt 19

Going through the Chen Taiji principles is always great and I am glad to go through it again today during the lecture part. Sifu explained not only the principles but how the breathing works as well in the movements and makes one or another movements the way it is.
The Chen spear is a great weapon skill and it always helps to go through it as a group and individually. I must admit that it is one of the most complex forms that I have time. The movements themselves are no complicated but the sequence is quite unique and long so, whenever we do the seminar I try to pay attention and really see the flow in the form. Of course, remembering just the movements first also helps but it is the feeling about the form that helps to do it right.

The first two sections we did I remembered quite well and it was very nice to go through it again and discuss it with fellow students in the partner training rooms to see if we have the same understanding. In the later sections, it was very helpful indeed to be able to ask for advice and observe one another after seeing Sifu demonstrate that section. The many turns and spins of the spear can be quite confusing so getting the direction and sequence right was very nice.

Then, towards the end of the last sequence we did last time, I finally understood how the second part of the forms works together and the order of the sequence and repetitions. It’s a very good feeling when that happens and, even more so, we reached the end of the form. Of course, it feels good to reach the end because now I can practice it altogether, without interruptions and keeping the flow of the movements while going through the form.

Thank you Sifu for this great form and for the detailed way in which you teach us and help us to see the movements and the energy of Chen Taijiquan. I am looking forward to the last two seminars and will try to get the form right so I can practice it and remember it.

It feels good to make it to the end of the Chen Spear form. Things are so much clearer and now with the last part, I’m really looking forward to working on the energy, the attitude and the finer points through polishing. Thank you Sigong. Sam

The lecture was really interesting, putting together the circles in the movements, the breathing and the attitude the Chen Taijiquan. It was good to finish the form, with one more repetition of 3 steps back and 5 flower steps, will need to keep focusing so not to get lost in the form or miss bits out! Thank you Sigong. Christine
