Grandmaster Tse’s Chùn Yuén Diaries 俊元日記 15

When we are doing very physical exercise, most people will breathe through their mouths. Chùn Yuén Quán 俊元拳 requires that we breathe through our nose.

Principles of Chùn Yuén Quán

Part 7

The sixth and last principle is, breathe through the nose. For a healthy person, breathing through the nose is quite normal, but, when we are doing very physical exercise, most people will breathe through their mouths. Chùn Yuén Quán 俊元拳 requires that we breathe through our nose. We say, the nose is for breathing and the mouth is for eating and talking. So, the mouth should not be used for breathing, otherwise we would have hair in our mouths to filter out dust, like we have in our nose. During our Chùn Yuén Quán practice, if we are able to breathe through the nose, then our lungs are strong, and will we get a lot of air and oxygen into our lungs, and so we will have strong Qì 氣 and more blood circulation, which makes us healthy and fit. This is internal health training. In the beginning, some people will find it difficult to breathe through the nose, but if we keep the mouth sealed, then we can only breathe through the nose, and then it will become a habit. Once this happens, it will become natural and then we will never like breathing through the mouth as it makes us tired quickly as we do not get enough air into our lungs.
