Fists

Part 1

Practising Chùn Yuén Quán 俊元拳 is definitely good for our health. When we practise the forms, we move our whole body from Centre, the waist, which is also the Dāntián 丹田. Moving like this makes us very healthy. Chùn Yuén Quán is a form of Shàolín Quán 少林拳 – Shaolin Fist, which means that it is not only good for our health, but it is also a good fighting skill.

Within the Chùn Yuén forms, we come across many different kinds of fist. In general, we have the horizontal fist and the vertical fist. However, we use different parts of the fist to strike with, not only the face of the knuckles. We can use the upper part of the fist, the lower part and also the back of the fist, but we will talk about those later, lets frist focus on the basic horizontal and vertical fists. Many people do not know the difference between the horizontal and vertical fists. They have a different uses and meanings.

The most common fist is the horizontal fist, which most of the time, comes from the side of the waist. This punch comes from the waist and the body, this makes it very powerful. When the fist is held at the waist, the palm faces up and as we extend the arm out, the fist spirals out and this makes it even more powerful.
