Jiǔ Jié Biān 九節鞭 Nine- Section Whip
Part 2
Traditional Chinese Kung Fu has many different weapons. There are hard weapons, like swords, staff and spears, and there are soft weapons, like metal whip with a dagger or knife attached to the end and rope whips with blades attached to the end. There are also half soft and half hard weapons, like the three-section staff or two-section staff, which are sticks attached together with chains or ropes, but they are different to Japanese Nunchucks, as one stick is longer than the other.
Jiǔ Jié Biān 九節鞭 Nine- Section Whip is definitely a soft weapon. Soft weapons are hard to control and take a long time to master. The advantage it gives you is that enemies cannot get close to you and attack you easily. The whip is often swung around, and wherever it swings and it can swing in many directions and so covers a great area and damages and breaks whatever it hits. It can also tangle around any object and can be used to drag it away, and then used to attack the enemy. If we use it well, then it is a very powerful weapon.
