Five Elements People
For example, we need to know about the acupuncture points, the Jīng luò 經絡 – Channels, we need to understand, Wújí 無極 – Nothing, Tàijí 太極 – Something, Yīn 陰 and Yáng 陽 and the Wǔxíng 五行 – Five Elements. This knowledge helps us to understand how Qigong works.
In nature there is always two kinds of energy. One is hard and one is soft, and these we call Yīn 陰 and Yáng 陽, for example fire and water, hot and cold, man and woman, active and passive. These two energies can be divided to make four, like four season or four corners or four directions. Any two can be divided into four and if we have four, then there something that connects them all together. This is the centre. With four seasons, hot countries have the long summer, with cold countries have long winter, with four corners there is the centre which connects them all together, and four directions also have a centre connecting them together. So, four plus one makes five and these are Five Elements. When we look, we can see many things that have five for example the hand has five fingers. These Five Elements we name and they are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
