Grandmaster Tse’s Wing Chun Note 423

Sam Hing 三兄 - Third Brother, was not always in class and unfortunately I never had a chance to Chī Sáu 黐手 with him.

Studying with Sīfú 師父

Part 10

Plus, at the time I was junior and thought he would beat me up! However, I did Chī Sáu with Thomas many times. Thomas was stronger, taller and longer arms and more skill than me. In the beginning, he could hit me a few times, then after about six months to a year, I could hit him back a couple of times. So, we did fight every time we did Chī Sáu. I was not scared of him because I was coming to learn and Sīfú 師父 always said, “Everybody gets hit, even myself. Without getting hit, you will never get better.” So I improved by getting hit. A couple of time Thomas hit me hard enough to split my lip and make it bleed and I knocked his glasses off many times. One day Thomas sadi to me, “Ah Jing (my Chinese name), your Póuh Pàh Jéung 琶掌- Holding Pei Paa Palm, is very good.” So I guess it used it well. Whenever I did Chī Sáu I used good skill and was never afraid to fight back. I also liked it a lot. However, some brothers did not want to Chī Sáu with me, until much later, and this was after I realised that I should not use too much energy.
