Studying with Sīfú 師父

Part 15

Part way through the film, Ip Chun Sīfú 葉準師父 walked past and we thought it was very funny. Sīfú said, “I just walked past for a second, I did not think it would affect the film.” People were not used to filming and so not realise that everything in front of the camera would be recorded. In the film Sīfú was much younger. It was a good film and an important record of history and it gave us a chance to see our Sīgōng demonstrate the forms. There were some slight differences from what Sīfú had taught us, but they were basically all the same. Whatever Sīfú taught me I tried my best to follow, this is what a good student should do. In nay skill after many years, each teacher will have their own experience, understanding and development, which will make things slightly different, but they are still basically the same.

Ip Man Sīgōng is a legend. Today, most people learn Wing Chun because of him. Sīfú carried on teaching the skill, teaching all of us from his heart, without holding anything back. Sīfú always says, “Wing Chun had not secrets.” And this makes him the best Sīfú that he can be.
