Nine Section Whip Pt1

I really wanted try this form out. To see if I would like it. I can honestly say I am hooked, or should that be whipped?!

Well, it has been a long time in coming… and it did not disappoint. We learnt the first few sections of this unique weapons form and it was so much fun!

A lot of us were using the ‘Mike Baker’ (soon to be patented) ball and rope whip. For me this has undoubted save me an impromptu trip to A&E!

We started the seminar with a lecture and got to see a couple of Wu Sigong’s 9 and 13 section whips. Quite literally ‘the real thing’. Then we got to do the form. At first it seemed like I was never going to get it (I’m a slow learner), but then something just clicked and things seemed to flow. Weapons forms are so interesting. You don’t so much control the weapon, as much as you let the weapon become part of you.

I really wanted try this form out. To see if I would like it. I can honestly say I am hooked, or should that be whipped?!

Thank you Sifu for bring yet another wonderful Chun Yuen to us. Can’t wait for the next seminar.

Great to start 9 section whip! Feel more energised for having done it. Enjoyed the true story about the buried treasure left to the dutiful hard qigong student in our lineage. Thanks, Sigong! -Kay

Super fun 9 Section Whip today! I really enjoyed this new weapon which behaves in a completely different way…and is pretty unforgiving when you get it wrong. Can’t wait for next time. Thank you, Sigong! Best, Tom Hogg

Well that was a lot of fun and it was good to finish on a challenging part so that now we have something to work on before next time. Trying to see what is going on and translate it into the whip at home is tricky but rewarding! Thanks Sigong for passing on such a rare skill! Lee B

Very exciting to start this new form. The feeling of the weight and energy is quite different to the other weapons forms. Excellent coordination practice!
Thank you, Sigong.

A very enjoyable nine-section whip seminar. It has a nice playful feel to it. I liked the story about Sigong’s hard qigong Sigong and the box of secrets. I’m already looking forward to next time. Thank you Sigong. Peter Hogg

The 9 Section whip is already a fun form to learn. It’s great to try something so different, a very interesting weapon. Thank you for sharing this skill Sifu. Already looking forward to next time Pete A

The 9 section whip was a great start to my day! Challenging both my cognitive skills and coordination, I am just happy I came away unscathed so far. Looking forward to more fun and challenging movements in the near future.

How exciting it is to start the 9 sections whip, this mysterious form at the end of the Chun Yuen syllabus. I can see it will be as challenging to learn what the whip is doing as it was for the tassel in the White Crane form! The ball at the end of the whip has already hit me in the ear on top of my ear phones, so now I am learning to catch it and watching it when it goes wrong! Thank you Sigong for bringing this very special form to us. Christine

I’ve been looking forward to learning this form for so long and this first seminar did not disappoint. The nine section whip is already so much fun to learn. The challenge of handling such a weapon, coordinating it with your movements and the general danger of getting hit by the “dart”, makes it that much more enjoyable. Thank you Sigong for sharing this form. Sam

I have been looking forward to Nine Section Whip seminar since it was announced. The form is very nice and I can see how I can use the tassel skill for it. It was also great to hear all the details that Sifu gave us about the history and the whip itself. Thank you Sifu!
