The Nine Section Whip is a traditional weapon in Chinese martial arts known for being easy to hide but hard to master.
For today’s practitioners it offers excellent training of whole body coordination and timing. Motion must be fluid and continuous. Being sensitive to the tug of the whip as it flies through the air. Knowing where the end is without looking.
Sensitivity, coordination, timing, presence – these are all valuable skills for both health and martial efficiency.
GM Tse is not only a teacher of skill and forms – he also teaches philosophy. He always pushes his students to go deeper and explore the skills. In his lecture he explained how the five skills of the Tse Qigong Centre are all part of one whole. They complement each other and at the same time each offer a different path to the top of the mountain. The skills are Qigong, Taijiquan, Wing Chun Kyun, Chun Yuen Quan and Hard Qigong. Each is like one of the five elements in traditional Chinese philosophy – they support each other.
The Nine Section Whip is as challenging as it is rewarding. Anyone who pratices is sure to feel benefit in everyday life and also find that it helps the understanding and command of the other four Tse Qigong Centre skills.

The most recent moves in the 9 section whip are quite challenging, i can see it will need some practice before I try with the real whip!! Great seminar, thank you Sifu.

It was good to continue with the 9 section whip today. The previous parts are much clearer now. Interesting new bit with wrapping over the shoulder and then around the leg. Looking forward to more next time. Thank you, Sigong. Best, Tom Hogg.
Today’s nine-section whip seminar started with an interesting lecture on the five skills and their characteristics, linked to the elements. Some tricky bits in the form are beginning to fall into place more now. Thank you Sigong. Peter Hogg🙏🏻
There’s so much flair and performance in these new whip parts, I love it! I can’t do it, but it will look amazing if I ever get it right… Thanks Sigong for sharing such a fun skill! Lee B
Was good to go over the Nine Sections Whip today, especially the bit around the neck and the following movement. I didn’t get it last time, but now I think I have a better idea. I’ll see next time if it is right or not! The new movement is interesting with wrapping around leg and kicking. Really interesting lecture about the Centre skills, comparing and contrasting them. Thank you Sigong. Christine B
Thank you Sifu for another great weekend of seminars. The lecture detailing how we should practice was a fantastic reminder of what I should be doing to continue to improve my skills. The 9 section whip continues to be a fun challenge, especially with the new section. Can’t wait until the next seminar. Andrew O.
Thank Sigong for such a timely lecture on how and why we practice all the skills we do in the centre. I often get asked this, like I’m sure many others do too! Controlling and flowing with the Nine Section Whip has to make it one of the most challenging skills we do. And the potential of getting hit with the real whip is never too far from our thoughts either, which I think makes it all the more exciting! Looking forward to seeing what the next part brings.
