Peaceful Calm Meditation Pt6

Sigong also covered how different hand positions during meditation affect the nearby organs within the high, middle or low areas. Just like relaxing, higher hand positions are the hardest.

This was our fifth Peaceful and Calm Meditation Seminar and we began, as always, with a lecture. In the lecture, Sigong spoke about how it takes time to learn to meditate and, like everything else, it takes practice. As well as building up our meditation, we should make it make it part of our daily routine or habit, and of course we can take the opportunity to meditate anytime, anywhere where we can relax and not be disturbed.

Whether sitting or standing, relaxation should start from the top, the head, face, neck and shoulders, and work down the body. The top being where a lot of our body’s tension gets held and the hardest part to relax. Once we let go of tension, our body is more open to allow fresh positive Qi to enter. With our bodies relaxed and the Qi flowing, our mind is also more open and able to see things more clearly.

Sigong also covered how different hand positions during meditation affect the nearby organs within the high, middle or low areas. Just like relaxing, higher hand positions are the hardest. The hand positions in the Peaceful and Calm meditation particularly focus more on the heart and lungs.

After the lecture and break, we repeated the first poem and then as a group, did the first part of the meditation. Next we repeated the second poem, and then did the first and second part of the meditation. In both these parts, the hands are high which can be especially difficult to begin with. Some people find that the hands move or their body starts to move, but it is important we should not let the Qi control us.

Following on from this, we continued to repeat the third poem, and then as a group meditated from the beginning all the way through to the first set of movements. Changing hand positions can also have powerful affects, and if it is too much, it is ok to stop, but we should gradually build up practice to get used to handling it.

Finally we repeated this all again with the forth poem, and learnt a new set of movements. In this way, we gradually repeated and built up our meditation practice throughout the seminar.

This was a wonderful fifth part of the series, a great way to consolidate what we’ve learnt so far and a lovely way to spend the morning.

Thanks for class Sifu, it was a great seminar. The poems are always lovely to say. Today I started off feeling sleepy then as the seminar progressed I became more relaxed and clear instead, so it was interesting feeling the change and how the meditation effected my energy.

Thank you Sifu, for a wonderful meditation seminar. This time I was challenged by outside disturbances, but managed to focus on the meditation. My skin feels smoother and my face feels full. It’s an amazing feeling.

Nice to go through the poems and the movements together. Looking forward to working more on the last bit. I have been a bit ill, but everything seems brighter and lighter now. Thank you Sigong.
Lene

At beginning I felt tired and achy, but as we focused on the mediation and poems with Sigong’s guidance I felt a subtle change in my energy, and I felt warmer and more relaxed. Now at the end of the seminar I feel more whole and connected internally and externally. Thank you Sigong.

It is great that now I can remember the sequence of the meditation positions and the poems. Still need more practice to get it fully right but feeling a lot better and can also hold the position for longer. Thank you Sifu!
