Daoist Lǚ Dòng Bīn 呂洞賓
Lǚ Yán 呂嚴 was not sure. This meant he would then become a Daoist monk. He would have to let go of his lifestyle, the imperial exams, and his family. It was a big decision. Zhōng Lí Quán saw the hesitation in Lǚ Yán’s face and said “I am going to my room to cook some millet, I am sure you are hungry now, you can rest on the bed, and I will wake you up when the cooking is done.” After all his worrying, Lǚ Yán was quite drunk and tired and so he went with Zhōng Lí Quán and lay on the bed, which was comfortable and just what he needed. Soon he was fell asleep.
Lǚ Yán found himself in the imperial examinations. But now he found he could answer all the questions and wrote a very good article. After a few days the results were released in public, and Lǚ Yán was the top score. This meant he would work in the Imperial Court for the Emperor and be a high government official. He was very happy. His family and his whole village were proud of him. He had got what he wanted – his dreams had come true.
