Jīng Qì Shén 精氣神 and Hún Pò 魂魄

Part 2

If someone is sick and ill, they will not be interested in having sex. It is the nature of all living things to focus on reproducing, to continue the species. However, we know that some creatures die after reproducing, so it means that having sex, takes a lot of energy. In Qigong 氣功, we learn that we should keep the Jīng 精, then is will develop into Qì 氣, which is Vital Energy. The vital energy is good for our health, and this is why Chinese medicine, and also Buddhism and Daoism, suggests that we preserve our Jīng. It is just like saving money to use in a better way later on. In Qigong we preserve it to develop Shén 神, which is Spiritual Energy. When we save our Jīng it will develop to become Qì, When our Qì is full we will develop Shén. Shén is the spirit, the mind, wisdom and enlightenment. Anybody who practises Qìgōng can be smarter and more enlightened. Then we will not make too much mistakes and get confused and will be able to understand things better.
