28 Constellations

Part 6

The first animal in the Èr Shí Bā Xiù 二十八宿 – 28 Constellations is the Cānglóng 蒼龍  – Green Dragon. Remember each animal has seven constellations. In ancient China, the dragon represented the emperor. Therefore, this is very important, and it is why it is the first of the seven constellations. Each constellation has a group of stars. The seven constellations of the Green Dragon are Jiǎo 角, Kàng 亢, Dì 氐, Fáng 房, Xīn 心, Wěi 尾, Jī 箕. The constellations represent different parts of the dragon. However, a Chinese dragon is different from a western dragon and does not have wings, we call it Long 龍.

Jiǎo 角 means antlers. This means they are the dragon’s antlers, which are like deer antlers, not like the horns of a buffalo. This constellation has two stars which are the same two stars used in Western Sign Virgo. Kàng 亢 is the dragon’s neck and throat, and it has four stars which also relate to Virgo. Dì 氐 is the front legs of the dragon, and it has four stars, which relate to Libra. Fang is the chest of the dragon. It also has four stars which relate to Scorpio. Xīn 心, is the heart of the dragon. It Has three stars that also relate to Scorpio. Wěi 尾 is the tail of the dragon. It has seven stars that again relate to Scorpio. The one is Jī 箕 which represents the wind the dragon’s tail makes. Ji also has four stars that relate to Sagittarius.
