The Northern Xuánwǔ 玄武 has 7 constellations which all make up a big picture, from the heads of the turtle and snake to their tails. The head is like the sky and here is Dǒu 斗, which is the Southern Dipper, the centre of the southern sky. Then we have Niú 牛 and Nǚ 女, which are the two lovers, the boy and girl who are only allowed to see each other once a year, but even so, they are together, husband and wife forever. Many people might have a husband or wife for life, even for 80 years or more, but it is never forever, one partner will eventually go first. When this happens. the loved one will not be able to see their partner again, until perhaps after they die or maybe reincarnated, but then the situation might be different, who knows? Niú and Nǚ can be together for a million years, that is true love and happiness. Then they have a beautiful mansion which is made up of Xū 虛 – the foundations, Wēi    危 – the roof, Shì 室 – the nine rooms which have plenty of space and Bì 壁 – the walls that protect them.  What a wonderful picture of the Northern Xuánwǔ.
