Speed of Movement
Part 3
When we practise our Qìgōng 氣功 are the movements fast or slow? Most of the time they will be slow because when we relax, it is normal to move more slowly. How slow should we go, just slow or very slow? The answer is which one, depends on which is more relaxed, going too slowly is not more relaxed. Sometimes we need to move faster, sometimes very quickly, sometimes very suddenly. Other times we need to be very hard and strong. So, we need all kinds of different speeds and strength, but why is this and how do we know which one is right? The answer is based on the inner feeling of the body. Qìgōng makes us healthy and good health comes when the internal body is healthy. Therefore, we must move from the inside to the outside, and so we must feel each movement as it relates to the internal body. When you can feel this well, then you will know the correct movement and speeds of the movement, and each different movement will have it own speed. When you watch your teacher or your seniors practising, their movements will be very graceful because they move from inside. The more we practise the deeper we will feel and understand each movement and this will change the speed of how we do it, until we find the perfect speed. However, just remember that even before we find the perfect speed, we will still benefit greatly from our Qìgōng practice.
