Drop Weight

Part 2

We also drop the weight in movement 24, 落膀回氣 Drop Arms and Recover Qì. Here, we drop the weight onto one leg, and this movement is more difficult. Dropping the weight equally onto both legs is much easier than dropping the weight onto one leg, as we can control it better.

When we have one foot at the front and one behind and have to drop the weight onto the back leg, we need better control and strong legs. Before we drop the weight, we need to stand on the balls of the feet, with the knees slightly bent. Then, we quickly drop the weight onto the back leg, and simultaneously, the hands must coordinate with the weight dropping, so that they move quickly into the correct position, and the movement ends at the same time.

The left Láogōng 勞宮 point faces the Sky-Eye, and the right Hòuxī 後谿 point is at the right Dàimài 帶脈 point. When we have dropped our weight, the left leg (at the front) is relaxed, and 70% of our weight is on the right leg. The whole body should stop at the same time, with no extra movement.

It is the same with movement 30, 回氣 Recover Qì. Dropping the weight helps us to learn to control the body and become stationary and still. This makes us healthy and helps us to avoid shaking when we are older.
