Meditation at the End

Why do we meditate at the end of class? This is a good question.

Meditation is like going to bed after a long, busy day at work. Of course, it is not the same as sleeping. When we are asleep, we are unconscious, whereas when we are meditating, we remain awake. During meditation, we relax the whole body and allow everything to settle down, returning to our natural state in order to balance the body and mind. We do not need to do anything in particular; we simply relax, let go and allow everything to work naturally by itself. Nature never dies; it is constantly changing.

We practise Qìgōng 氣功 movements to maintain and improve the condition of the body. Through movement, we release stiffness and restore balance. illnesses, tension, injuries and many other problems all create blockages. Some blockages we can see, while others we cannot; we simply feel that something is not right. Movement allows our Qì氣 to flow, helping to clear these blockages.

Afterwards, we meditate to store the Qì and bring the whole body back into balance. If we meditate before practising the movements, we will use our Qì instead of storing it. By meditating at the end of our practice, we allow the Qì that has been cultivated through movement to settle naturally and be stored within the Dāntián 丹田.
