Qigong is for health, and through practice we can increase the energy supply to our senses, including the 6th sense. It’s about how much energy we can supply to the 6th sense.
There are 6 senses; eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. The 6th sense is the mind and how we feel, our intuition, and being able to pick up more.
Qi develops through the body from the bottom to the top. So starting at the lower Dantien; Dan – the essence like a crystal and an entrance, then going up through the middle Dantien, then to the upper Dantien, The Sky Eye. The Baihui point is like the roof, where if there is excess energy it can come out. And when we connect the Laogong point in the palm with the Taiwai, Taiyang, and Bahui point at the start, it is stimulating these points, like opening the windows.
Sky Eye Gong was initially called Long Distance Training Dan Gong. So it’s about the ability to see more into the distance. Through practicing Sky Eye Gong, like all Qigong practice, we can achieve greater health and longevity and we can develop our senses.
The way we develop also depends on other things too though like genetics and our ancestors. So for some people, their sense might be better developed just through genetics. Or like animals that have a heightened sense of hearing or smell, some humans have senses that are heightened.
In modern day society it is easy to be in the habit of relying on equipment that makes our body not have to try so hard, like glasses for reading or the amplification of sound. But if we rely too much on equipment that we don’t always need, then we are not allowing our senses to strengthen and develop.
Animal senses are more developed and sharper, because they are always trying to survive and so they use them all the time. So if we sometimes try not to make things too easy and comfortable for ourselves, then our senses can develop and get sharper too, perhaps enabling us to stay safer and avoid danger, through the ability to sense more about what is going on in the world around us.
Sigong, Grandmaster Yang Meijun, did not start teaching Qigong until she was 70 years old, and she survived until the age of 104! Her Sky Eye must have been very developed! She would practice between the hours of 3am-5am, just like her ancestors. As Sifu has taught us in his writing and teaching, this was not just for her own survival and the survival of the Dayan Qigong skill, but also because this is a time of day when the body is at its weakest. In Chinese medicine, the time of day relates to different meridian channels and organs. So if we can practice and be strong at this time, then we are developing our strength and resilience by making things slightly less comfortable for ourselves, and encouraging our body to adapt more. 3am-5am relates to the lung channel and is also a time when we are unlikely to be disturbed, and the air is fresher. So if we can practice then, we can get stronger and be able to face our problems better, so if we want to develop the Sky Eye, then this is the best time to practice.
Through practicing Sky Eye Gong, we can develop our 6th sense and pick up more. Maybe after meditation we might think of something or someone, and write it down in case it is important for later. Or we might think of an object that we lost, or like Sifu, a letter that we are waiting for, that comes along the next morning. These might just be small things, but though Qigong practice we can develop to a higher level and pick up more.
The past and future are connected, so we might be somewhere, and have a feeling or sense about someone who was sitting in that spot in the past. But if we are not healthy, then the Sky Eye might pick up a message that is not actually correct. Also our heart and intentions are important too, so we can’t just try to pick up tomorrow’s winning lottery numbers! We need to develop naturally, and then maybe if we forget something, it will return to us.
So through Qigong practice we can relax more and get healthier first and foremost, and then and the more relaxed and healthy we are, the better we are able to tune into our 6th sense, and benefit.
Sifu then told us a story..
There was once a detective in old China who was quite sensitive. One day he was sitting in his office and a leaf blew over to his desk. He looked at the leaf and he had never seen this type of leaf before so he asked everyone around if they could find where the leaf had come from. Finally, he traced it to a tree at a dingy house and so he walked around the house, and found some soil that didn’t look very good. And when they checked the soil they found a body.
So, like the detective, if we are aware and are open and can sense things around us, then we might pick up a message, as sometimes something comes along to ask for help. And if you are sensitive, then you will be open to this.
After the seminar, we learned the first part of the form. This included connecting accu points to ‘open the doors’, gathering earth Qi as everything comes from the earth, which is also then balanced by good heaven Qi.

A wonderful sky eye Gong part 1 seminar.
It was nice to focus in much more on the detail of each move in this simple form.
I enjoyed the lecture on times of day to practice rand the story very much. Thank you Taisigong, Daniel N

Thank you Sifu, for a great last seminar. It’s always exciting to start a new form, and a bit sad to finish one, and that’s why it’s important to value the time and energy spent learning something, and not take it for granted. I’m pleased I was corrected on correct use of Sigong to refer to teachers teacher, as it is for respect, and although in my mind I sometimes think of Sigong by her first name, I learnt today that thoughts create actions, so it’s inportant to think correctly so that thoughts turn into good actions, and set a good example. Thank you for being a great Sifu and for all the quick corrections so that we learn well. Have a good break Sifu and see you next year. Carly
It was a very enjoyable first part of the Sky-Eye Gong. Feeling a very clear connection with sky and earth now. I’m looking forward to next time. Thank you Sigong and best wishes for the holiday. Peter Hogg
Great to do this form again. My upper dantian feels calm but also warm – like the Laogong points often feel when the qi and circulation open up.
Thank you Sigong.
