Part 4
In Tàijíquán
太極拳, Tuī Shǒu 推手 – Pushing
Hands is very important. When we learn the form, it is like learning how to
drive, but when we learn Tuī Shǒu, it is live daily driving, you need to drive
on the road is a safely from place to place. Even if we practise Tàijíquán our
entire lives, without Tuī Shǒu we might not understand the meaning of the
movements. Tàijíquán is a martial art, and it can be used for fighting. Today
many people just practise for health, but this is only half of the training.
The form is for health and Tuī Shǒu is for application of Tàijíquán.
When
you Tuī Shǒu with Sīfú 師父, Chén Xiǎo Wàng 陳小旺, he is very relaxed, and his flow is effortless. He knows
each step and remains in contact and he knows how to control the opponent. Then
he suddenly makes you lose your balance. It is a very good feeling when you
practise Tuī Shǒu movements and applications with him, and eventually you learn
the meaning of all the applications.
