Advanced Level of Sahp Sīng Bouh 十星步 - Ten Star Footwork
Part 11
Jeun Máh 進馬 means forward step. Jeun 進 means forwards and Máh 馬 is a step or a stationary stance in martial arts. As we are stepping forwards, Jeun Máh is obviously for attacking when the distance to the opponent is too far. For example, if we extend our fist and we cannot reach our opponent, we need to step forwards. It is best to step forwards with the same leg as the fist so, if we are punching with the right hand, we step with the right foot and if the left hand the left leg. This allows us to use 90 to 100% of our power, since we can transfer the power from our while body, from the leg to the waist to the body and at the end to our fist. We need to remember to judge the distance and as we start stepping our elbow should be bent and relaxed. This means at that moment, we will not be able to reach the opponent at first, but when we extend our arm and straighten the elbow, the fist will be able to reach their body. The best area to hit is their upper chest, as this will make them lose their balance. The best way to attack is to make them lose their balance first because then they cannot defend, and then we hit them. We must practise Jeun Máh separately first to get it right.
