Advanced Level of Sahp Sīng Bouh 十星步 - Ten Star Footwork
Part 20
How do we train multiple Teui Máh 退馬 – Backward Step? There are two ways. The first way is a small Teui Máh. Here we step back with the back foot and drag the front foot back so the feet are shoulder width apart. This is the same as the very first way we did Teui Máh, however, difference is that as we step back we move towards the direction of the back foot and this creates a curve. So for example, if the left foot is at the back we step towards the left side and the second step will continue to go to the left side. This means we keep curving to the left, even the third step is in this direction, so there is no zigzag created during the walking. If the opponent continues to attack, then walking this way will lead them to the outside of you, and since they are walking around the outside of the circle and you take the centre, it is much further away for them to reach you, which they can only do by leaning or jumping forwards. Of course, if they move quickly, then you must move quickly as well, but we will be using less energy and making them use more energy, and this is the aim of Wing Chun.
